Travel Days Escalate Quickly

So far, our transitions between places have been moderate to poor. There's no one culprit. Security gives us a hard time about some baby cream. A cab driver doesn't take credit and wants to drive us to an ATM. Nora pees herself just as the seatbelt sign comes on and the plane begins its descent.

In those moments, as we lug three suitcases, three backpacks, a stroller and two children across international borders, it's so easy to lose our cool. No matter how much we prepare, it's in those logistically stressful moments we can find ourselves bickering or being short with each other.

We're getting better at laughing about these moments. Most stressful moments are silly. Okay, so there's urine dripped down the plane seat and onto the floor. Sure, there's a moustachioed security guard questioning what we're planning to do with diaper cream. But these moments don't matter. What will matter is how Nora and Maeve remember them. They're always looking at us. And when we lose our cool we're signalling that something is wrong. We're getting better at not allowing these moments to escalate.
