Stories from the South

Couple of fun stories from Macroom with the kids.

Nora drew pictures for my aunt's chickens. Let's be clear, there are meat chickens. The kind you keep, feed and kill. But Nora insisted their coop needed some art.

Maeve fell in love with the farm dog, Poppy. In spite of her dainty look, Poppy is a proper farm dog. She goes where she wants and comes back when she's ready. She spends a lot of time in the field. Recently, all her teeth were removed, so her tongue hangs out constantly. Despite all this, Maeve fell madly in love.

We watched football, and it was wild. We're not talking about some soft soccer where everyone falls down all the time – sorry, not sorry. We're talking about Gaelic Football. The slappers-only version of rugby, where you can hold the ball sometimes, have to kick it other times, and are constantly bashing each other. We watched a local game with some of the cousins. One scored a dream goal. And then immediately collided head on with another player. 10 stitches later, and a lot of showing off his bloodied jersey in town, he was ok.
