In Rick we Trust

Last night we joined a walking tour of Rome and on arrival were met by a hoard of 50 tourists preparing to parade behind a tiny tour guide. It resembled more of a protest than a tour thanks to both its size and the grumpy demeanour of the average uncomfortable tourist.

This wasn't the play, we thought, as we slowly backed away in search for another plan.

This is when we discovered the majesty of Rick Steves, and his "not secret lover" Lisa. Legendary Rick, the self-proclaimed American authority on European travel, has a series of delightful self-guided audio tours of the key spots. His assistant Lisa, of whom he is definitely not sleeping with, gives you navigational directions while Rick tells stories, some squarely edgy, from modern day, history and beyond.

Our two hour roam of Rome (see what I did there) was made possible  thanks to these audio guides.
