Finding Friends
Nora is a super social girl. She's the first to barge up to a group at the park and demand entry into their imaginary game. Day care has been great at helping us foster this social butterfly.
However, she's found it hard to sustain that energy when she can't understand the kids around her. We assumed she'd just go along with the local Spanish kids and not be so bothered by the language divide, but that hasn't exactly been the case. Nora is an imagineer. She not only wants to play, but she wants to create entire worlds, games and characters in her head. To do this, she needs to be able to explain her vision.
So we've been on the hunt for anglophones. Jo and I, pulling up beside parents with strollers full enough to be out of place tourists, eavesdropping for that sweet, sweet English. We found our first hit of ex-pat connection in a Scottish family with 6 and 11 year olds. Too old for our 2 (almost 3) year old right? Wrong. Nora took to them like peanut butter on the roof of your mouth. And they were great sports about it too - letting her push them around and come up with ridiculous addendums to the traditionally simple game of Hide and Seek.
