Fast Friends
We met up with a friend of a friend who had kids a similar age to ours. We started the day at Hackney City Farm, and later made our way to the Young V&A. There is nothing cooler than how quickly kids make friends.
At the beginning, the girls were unsure of each other. There was a lot of whispered questions. Quiet probes into whether there was compatibility. Farm animals broke the ice â they held hands and stalked after loose chickens. The Young V&A is a parent's paradise. It's a giant indoor (thus enclosed) playground that you can convince yourself is educational. It's an excellent time.
By the time the day was over they were all clinging to each other, negotiating future get togethers. After a day of laughter that ended in crocodile parting tears, we went seperate ways. It's unlikely we'll see these kids again given the geography. But it's remarkable how quickly the girls can create deep friendships.
It's a good lesson to us frankly. Why does it feel so much harder to make new friends as we get older? The girls have no issues putting it out there. Asking for friendship.
With literal strangers.
