Cykling København
It wouldn't be a trip to Copenhagen, if we didn't rent bikes. An in my attempt to channel my inner local, I got to drive the cargo bike.
Couple of thoughts:
- Copenhagen is built for bikes. Cyclists take precedence over cars, people, construction, buses, emergency vehicles. There are bikes lanes everywhere, and neat connections that make it easy to cross roads and canals. It's often faster to get around the city by bike than it is car.
- Local cyclists don't like that I'm a rookie on the bike. While no one rang their bell at me (that wouldn't be very Danish), I got passed pretty aggressively more than a few times. This isn't a fun little day out for them, it's real life, and my wobbly cargo bikes is a nuisance.
- The cargo bike is a beast. I tried to rent a non-electric one, and the bike guy took one look at me, and said you'll be happier with the e-bike. Ouch. But, he was right. Even before the girls jumped in, it was heavy. And turning it is like like turning a ship – you're taking the turn wide.
